Update: Earthquake jolts region close to Lata, Solomon Islands on Aug. 30 – 5.1 magnitude detected

A 5.1 magnitude quake was registered near Lata Saturday morning, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The tremor, which shook the area at 14:58 UTC (01:58 local time), was centered roughly 108 km south-southeast of Lata. It occurred at a depth of 55 km.
