Earthquake measuring 5.0 strikes area southeast of Easter Island on Jan. 24

EASTER ISLAND, Valparaíso — Saturday afternoon, a 5.0 magnitude quake was detected southeast of Easter Island, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

At 23:40 UTC (16:40 local time), the region was hit by a tremor. The earthquake jolted at a depth of 10 km, with its epicenter southeast of Easter Island of southeast of Easter Island.
