Update: May 29 – 5.2 magnitude earthquake recorded near Turpan, China

A 5.2 magnitude quake occurred close to Turpan on Friday around midday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The tremor, which struck the area at 06:55 UTC (12:55 local time), was centered approximately 118 km southwest of Turpan. It occurred at a depth of 10 km. Seismologists first reported it as a 5.3 event, but later downgraded it to 5.2.
