According to the U.S. Geological Survey, a 5.3 magnitude quake shook near Yokohama Thursday night.

At 14:31 UTC (23:31 local time), the region was jolted by a tremor. The earthquake hit at a depth of 56 km, with its epicenter roughly 94 km east of Yokohama.

Equally strong tremors this week

Two quakes, exceeding magnitude 2.5, each with a magnitude of 5.3, have been reported in the area during the past week. The first was registered close to Mutsu two days earlier, and the second hit near Honchō on January 17.
