On Sunday at 9:21 a.m. a dust storm warning was released by the National Weather Service in effect until 9:45 a.m. for Alamosa County.
“At 9:19 a.m., The public reported visibility less than 1/4 of a mile 7 miles north of Alamosa,” according to the NWS. “Alamosa will be affected by this dust storm.”
Locations impacted by the warning include Alamosa, San Luis Valley Airport, Alamosa East, Mosca, San Luis Lake and Great Sand Dunes.
“Dangerous life-threatening travel,” comments the NWS. “Dust storms lead to dangerous driving conditions with visibility reduced to near zero. If driving, avoid dust storms if possible. If caught in one, pull off the road, turn off your lights and keep your foot off the brake.”
