The National Weather Service released a dust advisory at 8:38 p.m. on Sunday in effect until 9:15 p.m. for Delta, Garfield, Mesa and Montrose counties.

“At 8:37 p.m., a wall of dust was along a line extending from 7 miles north of De Beque to Palisade to 11 miles south of Fruita, moving southeast at 60 mph,” explains the NWS. “Hazardous travel.”

Locations impacted by the advisory include Grand Junction, Delta, Orchard City, Palisade, Cedaredge, Parachute, Collbran, De Beque, Mesa, Battlement Mesa, Cameo, Fruitvale, Molina, Clifton, Whitewater, Austin, Glade Park, Skyway, Cory and Plateau City. This includes the following highways: Interstate 70 in Colorado between mile markers 33 and 74. U.S. Highway 50 in Colorado between mile markers 32 and 76. Colorado 65 between mile markers 1 and 61. Colorado 92 between mile markers 1 and 12. Colorado 141 between mile markers 138 and 162.

The NWS adds, “Blowing dust brings reduced visibility, leading to dangerous driving conditions. If driving, avoid blowing dust if possible. If caught in dense blowing dust, pull off the road, turn off your lights and keep your foot off the brake. Motorists should not drive into an area of blowing dust. Pull aside stay alive!”
