At 2:34 a.m. on Friday, the National Weather Service issued an updated dense fog advisory in effect until 7 a.m. for La Junta Vicinity/Otero County and Las Animas Vicinity/Bent County as well as Crowley County.

“Visibility less than 1/4 mile at times in dense fog,” can be expected according to the NWS. “The areas with the lowest visibility are expected to be along Highway 50 and along the Arkansas River.”

“Low visibility could make driving conditions hazardous,” adds the NWS. “If driving, slow down, use your headlights, and leave plenty of distance ahead of you.”

Navigating fog: Safety tips by the NWS

When a dense fog advisory is issued for your area, it means that widespread dense fog has developed and visibility can plummet to a quarter-mile or less. These conditions pose challenges for travel, so exercise extra caution on the road or consider postponing your trip if possible.
