Update: Seismic activity on Dec. 20 – 5.2 magnitude earthquake close to Nemuro, Japan detected

The U.S. Geological Survey reported that a 5.2 magnitude quake occurred close to Nemuro Saturday night.

At 12:58 UTC (22:58 local time), the region was shaken by a tremor. The earthquake hit at a depth of 35 km, with its epicenter approximately 70 km south-southeast of Nemuro.

Last week’s tremor

During the past week, another earthquake with a magnitude 5.3 was registered nearby. It too was recorded near Nemuro, prior to this quake.
