Update: 5.0 magnitude earthquake hits near Nemuro, Japan on Dec. 2

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, a 5.0 magnitude quake shook close to Nemuro Tuesday evening.

The tremor struck the area at 10:03 UTC (20:03 local time). It occurred at a depth of 35 km with the epicenter located approximately 46 km south of Nemuro. Seismologists first reported it as a 5.2 event, but later downgraded it to 5.0.
