Update: Central Colorado placed under a fire weather watch Friday, gusts reaching 40 mph

On Thursday at 3:08 a.m. an updated fire weather watch was released by the National Weather Service valid for Friday between noon and 9 p.m. for Fremont County including Canon City/Howard/Texas Creek, San Luis Valley including Alamosa/Del Norte/Fort Garland/Saguache, Pueblo County including Pueblo, Huerfano County including Walsenburg and Western Las Animas County including Trinidad and Thatcher.

Expect winds to be southwest 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph and relative humidity 10 to 15 percent.

“Fires will catch and spread quickly. Exercise extreme caution with any outdoor burning,” describes the NWS.

A fire weather watch means that critical fire weather conditions are possible. Listen for later forecasts and possible red flag warnings.
