A blowing dust warning was released by the National Weather Service on Monday at 4:34 p.m. in effect until 8 p.m. The warning is for Van Horn and Highway 54 Corridor, Eastern Culberson County, Reeves County Plains, Chinati Mountains, Marfa Plateau, Davis Mountains, Davis Mountains Foothills and Presidio Valley as well as Martin, Howard, Loving, Winkler, Ector, Midland, Glasscock, Ward, Crane, Upton and Pecos counties.

The NWS says to prepare for, “Widespread blowing dust and strong wind gusts up to 70 mph.”

“Severely limited visibilities are expected. Travel will be dangerous and possibly life-threatening. In addition to reduced visibility, strong winds will be hazardous to trailers and other high-profile vehicles,” states the NWS. “Persons with respiratory problems should make preparations to stay indoors until the storm passes. Be ready for a sudden drop in visibility to near zero. If you encounter blowing dust or blowing sand on the roadway or see it approaching, pull off the road as far as possible and put your vehicle in park. Turn the lights all the way off and keep foot off the brake pedal. Remember, ‘Pull Aside, Stay Alive’.”
