Published Apr 30, 2025

On Wednesday at 3:22 p.m. an updated beach hazards statement was issued by the National Weather Service in effect until 10 p.m. The statement is for Matagorda Islands, Brazoria Islands, Galveston Island and Bolivar Peninsula.

The NWS states to anticipate, “High risk of rip currents and above normal water levels.”

“Rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away from shore into deeper water. Elevated tides could lead to higher than normal wave run up on area beaches,” describes the NWS. “Remain out of the water to avoid hazardous swimming conditions.”
