Be prepared for heavy snow in Kit Carson County early Sunday morning

The National Weather Service issued a report at 4:12 a.m. on Sunday for heavy snow until 5:15 a.m. for Kit Carson County.

“At 4:11 a.m., an area of heavy snow was located along a line extending from 3 miles north of Kanorado to 7 miles east of Burlington to 6 miles southeast of Stratton. Movement was east at 40 mph. Wind gusts up to 50 mph are possible with this area of heavy snow,” describes the NWS.

Locations impacted by the alert include Goodland, Burlington, Stratton, Kanorado, Ruleton, Bethune and Edson. This includes the following highways: Interstate 70 in Kansas between mile markers 0 and 35. Interstate 70 in Colorado between mile markers 417 and 450. Highway 385 between mile markers 177 and 204, and near mile marker 211. conditions can deteriorate rapidly in winter weather situations. Be prepared for snow or ice covered roads. Slow down and allow extra time when traveling.
