The National Weather Service issued a weather alert at 6:42 p.m. on Wednesday for freezing rain until Thursday at 2 a.m. The alert is for Northern St. Lawrence, Northern Franklin and Southwestern St. Lawrence.

The NWS states, “Temperatures are hovering just above the freezing point in parts of the St. Lawrence Valley. Precipitation will likely cool temperatures near to just below freezing. Radar and surface observations indicates an area of mixed precipitation lifting northeast. Brief sleet or freezing rain will be possible. Warm temperatures will likely limit ice accumulation to elevated surfaces like bridges or overpasses where a glaze of ice may develop before temperatures warm above freezing again overnight. Use extra caution traveling in ice-prone areas.”
