A 5.0 magnitude quake occurred close to Severo-Kuril’sk on Sunday morning, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.
The USGS reported a tremor in the area at 20:05 UTC (06:05 local time). The epicenter was roughly 106 km south-southwest of Severo-Kuril’sk, at a depth of 10 km.

Two quakes closeby last week
Two earthquakes above magnitude 2.5 have been recorded nearby in the past week. Each was centered in the same area with the more significant — a 4.4 magnitude event — shaking on Apr. 8. The second, a 4.1 magnitude tremor, rattled on Apr. 12.
