Sunday, Jun 8 update from the National Hurricane Center: Latest on the Tropical Depression

System type: Tropical depression

The National Hurricane Center issued the first advisory for the tropical depression at 10 am Sunday. The tropical depression is currently at the Pacific Ocean, 715 miles south of the Southern Tip of Baja California. Packing maximum sustained winds of 35 mph, the system is tracking to the northwest at 8 mph.

“A turn back to the northwest with an increase in forward speed is then expected Monday night and Tuesday” meteorologists wrote. “Steady strengthening is forecast during the next 48 hours, and the system is expected to become a tropical storm later today”
