Dust advisory issued for Imperial County Saturday evening

The National Weather Service issued a dust advisory at 5:39 p.m. on Saturday in effect until 7:45 p.m. for Imperial County.

“At 5:38 p.m., a dust channel was 10 miles north of Holtville, or 11 miles east of Brawley, moving east at 20 mph,” explains the NWS. “Hazardous travel.”

Locations impacted by the advisory include El Centro, Brawley, Imperial, Plaster City, Holtville, Westmorland, El Centro Naval Airfield, Calipatria, Alamorio, Dixieland, Seeley and Wiest.

The NWS comments, “Blowing dust brings reduced visibility, leading to dangerous driving conditions. If driving, avoid blowing dust if possible. If caught in dense blowing dust, pull off the road, turn off your lights and keep your foot off the brake. Motorists should not drive into an area of blowing dust. Pull aside stay alive!”
