An updated lake wind advisory was released by the National Weather Service on Saturday at 11:11 a.m. in effect until 5 p.m. for Greater Lake Tahoe area.
The NWS states to anticipate, “West to southwest winds around 15 to 20 mph with gusts up to 35 mph and waves 1 to 3 feet for Lake Tahoe. Gusty and erratic winds from thunderstorms are also possible, with gusts up to 45 mph.”
“Small boats, kayaks and paddle boards will be prone to capsizing and should remain off lake waters until conditions improve,” comments the NWS. “Check lake conditions before heading out and be prepared for a sudden increase in winds and wave heights. Thunderstorms can bring rapidly shifting wind directions and stronger gusts. Consider postponing boating activities on the lake until a day with less wind.”
