A dust storm warning was issued by the National Weather Service on Wednesday at 7:13 p.m. in effect until 8:15 p.m. for Cheyenne County.

“At 7:12 p.m., a wall of dust was along a line extending from 10 miles northwest of Weskan to 11 miles southeast of Cheyenne Wells, moving east at 75 mph,” states the NWS. “Highway 40 will be impacted.”

The warning is for Sharon Springs, Weskan and Wallace.

“Dangerous life-threatening travel,” states the NWS. “Dust storms lead to dangerous driving conditions with visibility reduced to near zero. If driving, avoid dust storms if possible. If caught in one, pull off the road, turn off your lights and keep your foot off the brake.”
