At 6:59 p.m. on Wednesday, the National Weather Service released a dust storm warning in effect until 7:45 p.m. for Kit Carson County.

“At 6:59 p.m., a dust channel was near Kanorado, moving east at 75 mph,” states the NWS. “Dangerous life-threatening travel.”

Locations impacted by the warning include Goodland, Kanorado, Ruleton and Edson. This includes the following highways: Interstate 70 in Kansas between mile markers 0 and 35. Interstate 70 in Colorado between mile markers 447 and 450.

According to the NWS, “Dust storms lead to dangerous driving conditions with visibility reduced to near zero. If driving, avoid dust storms if possible. If caught in one, pull off the road, turn off your lights and keep your foot off the brake.”
