At 1:10 p.m. on Thursday, the National Weather Service issued a dust advisory in effect until 2:30 p.m. for Alamosa, Custer, Fremont, Huerfano and Saguache counties.

“At 1:07 p.m., an area of dust was situated over the northeast portion of the San Luis Valley, central Sangre de Cristo Mountains, and portions of the Wet Mountain Valley,” states the NWS. “Reduced visibility and hazardous travel.”

Locations impacted by the advisory include Great Sand Dunes, Crestone Peak, Crestone, San Luis Lake, Westcliffe, Hooper, Silver Cliff and Rosita.

The NWS states, “Blowing dust brings reduced visibility, leading to dangerous driving conditions. If driving, avoid blowing dust if possible. If caught in dense blowing dust, pull off the road, turn off your lights and keep your foot off the brake.”
