Update: Texas Gulf Coast under a high surf advisory until Sunday evening – waves of 4 to 7 feet forecast

Published Apr 6, 2025

At 9:35 a.m. on Sunday, the National Weather Service issued an updated high surf advisory in effect until 7 p.m. The advisory is for Kenedy Island, Willacy Island and Cameron Island.

The NWS states to prepare for, “Large breaking waves of 4 to 7 feet in the surf zone.”

“Dangerous swimming and surfing conditions and localized beach erosion. Rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away from shore into deeper water,” describes the NWS. “Inexperienced swimmers should remain out of the water due to dangerous surf conditions. Swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax and float. Don’t swim against the current. If able, swim in a direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help.”
