Dust advisory affecting El Paso County Wednesday night

At 8:04 p.m. on Wednesday, the National Weather Service issued a dust advisory in effect until 9 p.m. for El Paso County.

“At 8:04 p.m., a dust channel was near La Union, moving northeast at 15 mph,” says the NWS. “Hazardous travel.”

Locations impacted by the advisory include Westway, Fort Bliss, Santa Teresa, Vinton, Anthony, Sunland Park, Union Pacific Intermodal Terminal, Anthony Gap, Chamberino, Franklin Mountains State Park, West El Paso, Canutillo, La Union, Berino, Central El Paso, High Valley and Northeast El Paso. This includes the following highways: Interstate 10 in New Mexico between mile markers 157 and 164. Interstate 10 in Texas between mile markers 1 and 16.

The NWS states, “Blowing dust brings reduced visibility, leading to dangerous driving conditions. If driving, avoid blowing dust if possible. If caught in dense blowing dust, pull off the road, turn off your lights and keep your foot off the brake. Motorists should not drive into an area of blowing dust. Pull aside stay alive!”
