Earthquake measuring 5.1 jolts area near Tonosí, Panama on Oct. 10

TONOSÍ DISTRICT, Los Santos Province — A 5.1 magnitude quake struck near Tonosí on Saturday night, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

At 02:26 UTC (21:26 local time), a tremor shook the region at a depth of 10 km, with its epicenter roughly 1 km north-northeast of Tonosí.

In the past week, there have been 15 tremors of magnitude 2.5 or greater centered nearby, three of them larger than magnitude 5.5. The strongest, a 7.7 magnitude quake, was detected near Pitaloza Arriba on Oct. 9.
