MARE, Loyalty Islands Province — A 5.3 magnitude quake occurred close to Tadine on Monday afternoon, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The tremor struck the region at 03:25 UTC (14:25 local time). It occurred at a depth of 10 km with the epicenter roughly 69 km northeast of Tadine.

Quakes last week

During the past week, there have been 25 tremors of magnitude 2.5 or above centered nearby, two of them larger than magnitude 5.5. The largest one was a 6.6 earthquake that rocked the same region on Sep. 26.
