MARE, Loyalty Islands Province — A 5.0 magnitude quake struck close to Tadine on Saturday night, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

At 12:14 UTC (23:14 local time), a tremor jolted the region at a depth of 10 km, with its epicenter approximately 76 km northeast of Tadine. The magnitude was originally reported as 5.2 but later downgraded to 5.0.

Last week, there have been 15 quakes of magnitude 2.5 or greater centered nearby, two of them larger than magnitude 5.5. The biggest, a 6.6 magnitude earthquake, hit the same area on Sep. 26.
