The National Hurricane Center’s 10 a.m. Thursday update reported that Tropical Storm Fay is in the Atlantic Ocean, 990 miles west-southwest of the Azores. With maximum sustained winds of 50 mph, the system is moving to the west at 6 mph.

“A gradual weakening trend is expected to commence on Friday,” according to meteorologists.

Yesterday (Wednesday)

Fay became a tropical storm with sustained winds of 40 mph after intensifying from a tropical depression.
