The National Hurricane Center’s 10 p.m. Sunday update reported that the system, which was named Fay, became a tropical storm with sustained winds of 45 mph after intensifying from a tropical depression. The name gain was first included in the 4 a.m. update. Tropical Storm Fay is in the Atlantic Ocean, 385 miles southwest of the Azores. With maximum sustained winds of 70 mph, it is moving to the east-southeast at 5 mph.

Tropical Storm Fay is expected to weaken.
