TAPACHULA, Chis. — A 5.1 magnitude quake struck close to Puerto Madero on Monday morning, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

The USGS reported a tremor in the region at 10:53 UTC (04:53 local time). The epicenter was approximately 74 km southwest of Puerto Madero, at a depth of 10 km. Seismologists first reported it as a 4.9 event, but later upgraded it to 5.1.

62 tremors with a magnitude 2.5 or above have been recorded in the region over the last week, four of them larger than magnitude 5.5. The most significant was a 7.3 magnitude earthquake registered in the same area on Jul. 17.
