On Sunday at 10:39 a.m. the National Weather Service issued an updated heat advisory in effect until 9 p.m. for Yuma, Kit Carson and Cheyenne counties.
The NWS informs, “Air temperatures and Heat index values up to 105 degrees.”
“Increased risk of heat related illnesses. Multiple days of triple digit heat will also place considerable stress on livestock and outdoor pets,” explains the NWS.
Heat safety: Protecting yourself in hot conditions
• Stay hydrated: Make sure to drink plenty of fluids.
• Find cool shelter: Opt for an air-conditioned room to stay comfortable.
• Avoid sun exposure: Avoid direct sun exposure, protect yourself and check on vulnerable relatives and neighbors.
• Child and pet safety: Be vigilant about never leaving young children and pets in vehicles without supervision, especially during periods of intense heat, as car interiors can quickly become extremely hot.
• Caution outdoors: If you work or spend time outside, be sure to take additional safety measures.
• Time your activities wisely: If possible, move strenuous activities to early morning or evening for more favorable conditions.
• Recognize heat-related issues: Recognize the warning signs and familiarize yourself with symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
• Stay cool with clothing: Wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing.

• The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) recommends frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned areas for outdoor workers.
• If someone is overwhelmed by the heat, swiftly relocate them to a cool, shaded location.
• In emergency situations, dial 911 for immediate assistance.
