Update: Fire weather watch for San Juan Mountains/La Garita Mountains for Monday – gusts may reach 60 mph

The National Weather Service issued an updated fire weather watch at 8:48 p.m. on Saturday valid for Monday between 10 a.m. and 10 p.m. for Eastern San Juan Mountains and La Garita Mountains including Wolf Creek Pass and Creede.

Winds are expected to be southwest 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 60 mph and relative humidity as low as 10%.

“Extreme fire danger is expected. Fires will uncontrollably spread and be very destructive,” states the NWS.

According to the NWS, a fire weather watch means that critical fire weather conditions are possible. Listen for later forecasts and possible red flag warnings.
