Update: Fire weather watch affecting Gunnison Basin Monday – gusts may reach 50 mph

At 2:43 a.m. on Sunday, the National Weather Service issued an updated fire weather watch valid for Monday between noon and 8 p.m. for Gunnison Basin.

The NWS states that the warning was issued for gusty winds, low relative humidity and dry fuels. Winds are expected to be southwest 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph and relative humidity 10 to 15%.

“Fires will catch and spread quickly. Exercise extreme caution with any outdoor burning,” describes the NWS.

According to the NWS, a fire weather watch means that critical fire weather conditions are possible. Listen for later forecasts and possible red flag warnings.
