Update: Earthquake hits region near Santa María, Mexico on June 5 – 5.2 magnitude detected

OMETEPEC, Gro. — A 5.2 magnitude quake jolted near Santa María on Friday afternoon, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

The USGS reported a tremor in the area at 20:55 UTC (14:55 local time). The epicenter was roughly 2 km west-southwest of Santa María, at a depth of 33 km. Seismologists first reported it as a 5.1 event, but later upgraded it to 5.2.
