The National Weather Service issued an updated weather alert at 9:43 a.m. on Tuesday for heavy snow until 10:45 a.m. for Central Yampa River Basin, Elkhead and Park Mountains and Upper Yampa River Basin.

“At 9:42 a.m., a band of heavy snow was near Hayden, or 12 miles east of Craig moving east at 30 MPH,” states the NWS.

This includes U.S. Highway 40 in Colorado between mile markers 98 and 130.

Expect heavy snow in the following locations:

• Hayden around 9:50 a.m.

• Steamboat Springs around 10:10 a.m.

The NWS states, “Conditions can deteriorate rapidly in winter weather situations. Be prepared for snow or ice covered roads. Slow down and allow extra time to reach your destination.”
