SAN PEDRO JICAYÁN, Oax. — A 5.5 magnitude quake occurred near San Juan Jicayán on Monday morning, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

The USGS reported a tremor in the area at 15:19 UTC (09:19 local time). The epicenter was approximately 0 km southwest of San Juan Jicayán, at a depth of 18 km. Seismologists first reported it as a 5.7 event, but later downgraded it to 5.5.
