ALEUTIANS EAST BOROUGH, AK — A 5.1 magnitude quake occurred close to False Pass around midday Sunday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
The tremor shook at 8:14 p.m. (12:14 p.m. local time), with its epicenter about 58 miles southeast of False Pass and a depth of 27 miles.

The agency has received 6 responses on its online form so far, from people indicating they experienced weak shaking. According to the USGS DYFI report, several residents in King Cove and the surrounding area reported feeling the quake.

Tremors past week
Three earthquakes of magnitude 2.5 or above were detected in the region last week. The strongest, a 4.9 magnitude quake, hit in the same area on Apr. 10.
