Update: April 2 – 5.1 magnitude earthquake reported near Bitung, Indonesia

A 5.1 magnitude quake occurred close to Bitung on Thursday morning, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The USGS reported a tremor in the region at 16:10 UTC (01:10 local time). The epicenter was approximately 116 km east of Bitung, at a depth of 35 km.

Tremors last week

In the past week, there have been six tremors of magnitude 5.5 or above centered nearby. The largest, measuring 7.4, occurred in the same area on Apr. 2.
