Update: Seismic activity on March 27 – 5.0 magnitude earthquake close to Yamada, Japan registered

A 5.0 magnitude quake occurred near Yamada on Friday morning, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The tremor, which struck the area at 15:24 UTC (01:24 local time), was centered roughly 96 km east of Yamada. It occurred at a depth of 42 km. Seismologists first reported it as a 5.1 event, but later downgraded it to 5.0.

Tremors past week

Last week, the region has experienced seven tremors with a magnitude 2.5 or greater. The biggest, a 6.5 magnitude quake, rocked the same region on Mar. 27.
