Update: March 18 – 5.0 magnitude earthquake registered close to Attu Station, AK

ALEUTIANS WEST CENSUS AREA, AK — A 5.0 magnitude quake occurred near Attu Station on Wednesday afternoon, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

A tremor jolted the area at 4:36 a.m. (4:36 p.m. local time). The earthquake’s epicenter was approximately 145 miles east-southeast of Attu Station and occurred at a depth of 14 miles. The magnitude was originally reported as 5.2 but later downgraded to 5.0.

Tremors last week

Over the last week, there have been 32 quakes with a magnitude 2.5 or greater centered nearby. The largest one was a 5.3 earthquake that shook the same region on Mar. 18.
