Update: March 12 – 5.2 magnitude earthquake registered near Kavieng, Papua New Guinea

A 5.2 magnitude quake hit close to Kavieng on Thursday morning, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The tremor, which shook the area at 21:58 UTC (07:58 local time), was centered roughly 168 km southwest of Kavieng. It occurred at a depth of 10 km.

One more tremor with a magnitude 4.8 was recorded nearby. It was also reported near Kavieng on Mar. 7.
