ALEUTIANS WEST CENSUS AREA, AK — A 5.5 magnitude quake struck near Nikolski on Thursday morning, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

The tremor hit the area at 7:25 p.m. (8:25 a.m. local time). It occurred at a depth of 11 miles with the epicenter roughly 57 miles south of Nikolski. Seismologists first reported it as a 5.4 event, but later upgraded it to 5.5.
