The pile burning project, called TX-BTP Village and Turkey Creek RX 2026, was initiated 8 a.m. Feb. 16 in in Tyler County, Texas.

Since it was initiated more than a month ago, the prescribed fire has burned 412 acres of federal land managed by the National Park Service.

Prescribed fire (prescribed burn) is a wildfire prevention method that involves burning an area of land in a controlled manner to minimize the risk of catastrophic wildfires.
