Update: 5.1 magnitude earthquake shakes near Lospalos, Timor Leste on Jan. 26

Monday morning, a 5.1 magnitude quake was reported close to Lospalos, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The tremor struck the area at 00:54 UTC (09:54 local time). It occurred at a depth of 170 km with the epicenter located about 135 km northeast of Lospalos. Seismologists first reported it as a 5.2 event, but later downgraded it to 5.1.

Past week’s tremor

Last week, there has been another quake of magnitude 4.4 centered nearby. Seven days ago, it too was detected close to Lospalos.
