Published Jan 17, 2026

On Friday at 6:01 p.m. the National Weather Service issued an updated fire weather watch valid for Saturday between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. for Yuma, Kit Carson and Cheyenne counties.

Residents can expect winds to be northwest 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 55 mph and relative humidity as low as 13 percent.

“Conditions continue to improve across the area leading to the on time expiration of the today’s Red Flag Warning,” comments the NWS. “Unpredictable fire behavior. Any fires that develop may rapidly grow and spread out of control.”

According to the NWS, a fire weather watch means that critical fire weather conditions are possible. Listen for later forecasts and possible red flag warnings.
