The National Weather Service released an updated fire weather watch at 1:19 a.m. on Thursday valid for Friday between 5 a.m. and 5 p.m. for Yuma, Kit Carson and Cheyenne counties.
Residents can expect winds to be Thursday, Northwest 20-30 mph with gusts up to 40 mph. Friday, Northwest 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 60 mph and relative humidity as low as 13 percent.
“Unpredictable fire behavior. Any fires that develop may rapidly grow and spread out of control,” comments the NWS.
According to the NWS, a fire weather watch means that critical fire weather conditions are possible. Listen for later forecasts and possible red flag warnings.
