A 5.4 magnitude quake was detected close to Murghob Thursday night, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The tremor shook the area at 16:59 UTC (21:29 local time). It occurred at a depth of 35 km with the epicenter situated about 107 km south-southeast of Murghob. Seismologists first reported it as a 5.3 event, but later upgraded it to 5.4.
