NORTH HALMAHERA REGENCY, North Maluku — at midday on Thursday, a 5.1 magnitude quake was detected close to Tobelo, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

A tremor struck the area at 03:31 UTC (12:31 local time). The earthquake’s epicenter was located about 256 km north of Tobelo and occurred at a depth of 123 km.
