Update: Earthquake measuring 5.0 hits area close to Riverton, New Zealand on Oct. 29

SOUTHLAND DISTRICT, Southland Region — A 5.0 magnitude quake was registered near Riverton Wednesday afternoon, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

A tremor struck the region at 07:20 UTC (18:20 local time). The earthquake’s epicenter was situated roughly 260 km west-southwest of Riverton and occurred at a depth of 10 km.
