At 3:06 a.m. on Monday, the National Weather Service issued a fire weather watch valid for Tuesday between noon and 6 p.m. for Eastern San Juan Mountains and La Garita Mountains including Wolf Creek Pass and Creede and San Luis Valley including Alamosa/Del Norte/Fort Garland/Saguache.

Winds are expected to be northwest 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 35 mph and relative humidity as low as 10 percent.

“Fires will catch and spread quickly. Exercise extreme caution with any outdoor burning,” adds the NWS.

A fire weather watch means that critical fire weather conditions are possible. Listen for later forecasts and possible red flag warnings.
