Saturday night, a 5.3 magnitude quake was registered near Severo-Kuril’sk, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The tremor shook the area at 11:13 UTC (21:13 local time). It occurred at a depth of 47 km with the epicenter situated roughly 96 km south of Severo-Kuril’sk. Seismologists first reported it as a 5.5 event, but later downgraded it to 5.3.
